Unsolicited Applications – how to create one´s job

Target Group

This workshop is open to doctoral researchers from all disciplines. The participants should, however, have developed an idea of the type of career they want to pursue.

Content

The type of job you are looking for might not be advertised. It might not even exist. One way of increasing one’s chances to find the perfect job is to send a speculative application.

Topics dealt with are:

  • Career goals – setting priorities
  • Use and extension of one’s network
  • Developing messages about yourself
  • Type and sources of helpful information
  • How to address potential employers

Intended results of the workshop

Whilst this workshop is about speculative applications, it is not a simple “how to” guide. Instead, the participants of this workshop will understand how they can actively shape the process of finding a job away from usual job portals and how they can create and advertise their own job.

Methods

Theoretical input, individual & group work, exercises.
