German as a Foreign Language IV
Target Group
This course is designed for doctoral candidates who have completed level A2.1 and leads to level A2.2 of the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR).
You can reach level A2 within two semesters taking “German III” (= A2.1) and the continuation “German IV” (= A2.2) during the following semester.

Goals
This is a general language course, i.e., you will learn both oral and written communication skills. The focus will be on the productive skills, i.e., on speaking and writing. In doing so, this course is oriented towards the communicative goals of the CEFR while at the same time promoting independent learning.
Topics
Topics to be covered will include: mobility and traffic; learning situations; sports and activities; living in the neighborhood and pets; stages of our life; arts and culture.
You will learn new forms and structures, such as indirect questions, verbs with accusative and dative, verbs with prepositions, subjunctive II (to express wishes, requests and advice), subordinate clauses with “als/wenn”, sentence connectors (“deshalb”, “trotzdem”), and relative clauses (nominative and accusative).

There will be a final exam on the penultimate course day.
Absences
