Conflict Management

Target group

Doctoral candidates who would like to improve their way of dealing with conflicts.

Content

This course aims at supporting you in preventing, managing and solving conflicts – be it in your professional career, during your doctorate or postdoc, or in your private life. Conflicts may arise due to different interests, goals, estimations or expectations. They can originate from structural reasons like limited resources, from intra- or interpersonal reasons.

Many people avoid addressing conflicts or feel unsatisfied by the way they handle them. Ra-ther than reacting on a purely emotional level, you can learn how to manage disputes and disagreements constructively and proactively, and to control your emotion and deal with the emotions of others.

You will gain ideas about how to improve your own behavior and already start practicing this.

Topics include:

  • Types of conflicts
  • Conflict dynamics and escalation stages
  • Personality types and conflict behavior
  • How to address a conflict constructively
  • How to respond to criticism

  • Dealing with emotions of others
  • Discussing selected cases of participants
